We all know not everything we see on the internet is real. But, real or not, there's a damaging message being sent: Don't be you, be them. Authenticity is frowned upon, while following the herd is rewarded with likes and hundreds of comments.
Endless style tips online, especially viral TikToks, can leave you more confused and self-critical. Then there's the curated clothing boxes and AI color analysis. Neither one gives you the style or accurate colors best suited to you. I know, I used to get those boxes and wound up donating or giving most of the items to other family members. Nothing ever quite felt like me because it wasn't. That's what is missing from these curated boxes and computer-generated colors: the truly personalized experience. Your unique colors, body, and lived experience benefit most from a holistic approach that helps you get dressed in a way that feels good and is sustainable.
It's hard not to buy into body trends because of the constant media thrown at you. You'll be more popular, you'll get a date, you'll find your soul mate, you'll be happier if you do this or that. But, if you strip it down to what it truly is, it's a moneymaker. It has nothing to do with wanting you to be happy with your self-image or live a happier, more fulfilling life. It's all about the dollar signs and clicks.
So, instead of feeding your hard-earned money to giant conglomerates, invest in yourself. Start with your mindset. How can you change your perspective? First, think about what comes up for you when you want to look a certain way. Then ask yourself, why do I feel this way? Sit with your feelings and see what comes up for you. It may be uncomfortable, but it will give you a place to start.
Does your mindset towards your body hold you back from living a healthy, happy life? A style session tailored to your unique self will not only help you feel your best but also save you so much money in the long run. You'll learn what fits you best, why it fits you best, and how your personality plays a bigger role than social media in becoming your best self. You'll learn body-image techniques to support your new style and help you love it to the fullest.
